Arriva Doxford Park

 

International Public transport provider Arriva as part of an energy consumption audit contacted Advanced Lighting Technology and invited us to provide a lighting energy audit for their Head Office at Doxford International Business Park near Sunderland in the North East of England.

Upon investigation by Advanced Lighting Technology we found that although the lighting installation within the building was modern and had only been installed 5 years previously the luminaires provided at the time were equipped with high output 2x55 watt TC-L type control gear and lamps. The reason the high output lamps were being used was because the chosen luminaires within the building were fitted with very inefficient louvre reflectors.

Our proposal, designed in accordance with up to date lighting legislation was to replace all of the inefficient luminaires with our highly efficient recessed Aero type luminaires equipped with I-Sense technology which provides integral presence detection, daylight harnessing and DALI digital dimming control gear which allows the ballast within the luminaire to dim down to 1% of full output. We proposed this as a retrofit solution as the electrical wiring within the building was very modern and to change this would have caused too much disruption.

Our design showed that we could achieve the correct lighting levels required by using 2x24w T5 control gear and lamps.

Our proposal was accepted by Arriva and we subsequently supplied 695 x Aero I-Sense luminaires.

By changing the lighting and by adding I-Sense technology it is estimated that the energy costs have reduced by approximately 70% which equates to approximately £25,000.00 per annum and a reduction in harmful Co2 emissions of approximately 128 tons per year.
