Nexus Transport Gosforth.

 Nexus Transport based in Gosforth near Newcastle upon Tyne operate the Tyne and Wear Metro.

They had a problem with the lighting at one of their larger Metro Stations at the Monument in the Centre of Newcastle.

The station was built about 30 years ago and the luminaires within the Monument Station formed part of the station structure.

Advanced Lighting visited the station and took details and dimensions of the existing luminaire. It was noted that the existing luminaire incorporated magnetic switch start control gear and T12 75W 6ft fluorescent lamps.

Advanced Lighting Technology came up with an ingenious solution where we actually created a brand new modern luminaire using T5 electronic control gear with 49w T5 lamps within a vandal resistant housing with a highly reflective reflector system which importantly could be easily retrofitted into the existing housing which formed part of the Station Fabric.

Nexus were delighted with the sample we produced and even more so when we quoted the cost which was below the budget that they had allocated for the project. Nexus therefore placed an order for the bespoke luminaires to replace the ageing luminaires on site.

Once complete Advanced Lighting Technology checked the lighting levels on site which had improved the lighting from 400 lux with the original lighting to 550 lux with the new luminaires. The electrical running costs and subsequent Co2 emissions had reduced by 40% and maintenance periods for changing the lamps had improved from 2 years to 5 years.
