Northumbrian Water PLC
Advanced Lighting Technology were invited to provide a solution for the Head Office of Northumbrian Water in Pity Me, County Durham.
We visited site to perform a full lighting and lighting energy saving survey. From the information we gained from site we provided a full lighting design proposal complying with all of the relevant current guidelines for office lighting.
Our proposal was to replace the antiquated lighting within the building with modern highly efficient luminaires with fully dimmable intelligent addressable DALI digital control gear coupled with our DALI Digidim control system.
Our proposal was accepted in full by Northumbrian Water and we supplied 486 x office luminaires and a further 122 x luminaires for ancillary areas. The office luminaires were equipped with DALI digital dimming control gear for 2x24w T5 lamps which replaced the old luminaires which were equipped with 2x36w T8 lamps with magnetic switch start non dimmable control gear.
The Digidim lighting control system incorporates Passive Infrared motion detectors with integrated daylight harnessing sensors and 4 scene wall controllers for all of the meeting rooms. The fully addressable system totally automates emergency lighting testing and reporting to exceed the guidelines as specified within IEC62034. The system also provides full maintenance feedback detailing the quantity and locations of any faulty ballasts, emergency inverters, batteries or lamps site wide. In total we supplied 123 x sensors and 19 wall controllers.
By reducing the running consumption for the luminaires and adding daylight harnessing and presence detection we estimate that the energy costs for the lighting within the facility has been reduced by approximately 50% which equates to a saving of approximately £10,000.00 per annum and a reduction in harmful Co2 emissions of approximately 52 tons per annum.
In addition to the savings achieved by reducing the energy costs, extra costs have been saved as maintenance of the equipment has been dramatically reduced as the modern T5 type lamps have a long life of 20,000 hours.
