AV Dawson Ltd a leading North East multimodal distribution company of road, rail and sea, operate the largest independent dry cargo wharf on the Tees. Through the continual development and investment program in their 6 hectare site, formerly British Steel, Director Gary Dawson tasked Advanced Lighting Technology with producing a Lighting survey of Building Bays 1 and 4.

Advanced Lighting Technology’s proposed replacing the existing 400w Hi-Bay fittings with a combination of two, three and four tube energy efficient EconoBay T5 luminaries. Incorporation of digital dimming control gear in the luminaries allows the areas lighting to be controlled from as little as 1% to compensate for external daylight. Coupled with integral occupancy detection the EconoBay offers fully dimmable, on/off control of each fitting, only lighting those areas of a ‘Bay’ in use.

Impressed with the proposal and technology Dawsons purchased 75 Econobay luminaires with digital dimming control gear, MIRO4 reflector and 80w T5 Eco 30,000 hour long life lamps.

On completion of ‘Bay’s 1 and 4’ the AV Dawsons  project achieved in excess of 70% energy saving, yielding a annual reduction in CO2 harmful gases of 45 tons. Such are the improvements not only in energy saving, but also quality of light in the working environment, Gary Dawson has Advanced Lighting Technology installing the Econobay fitting across other areas on site, providing ongoing improvement.
